Long before L’Oreal, the Egyptians were making their own beauty regimen. Now you can too!

Both January James (Eyeliner of the Gods) and Chloe Bryce (Chloe, Queen of Denial) learned a lot about how the ancient Egyptians made and used cosmetics. After doing a little modern research, the two girls have come up with a list of things that you, too, can do to turn your bathroom into a spa fit for a queen.

Jan’s Rose Face Spritzer
Ingredients: small spray bottle (you can get one from your local drugstore)
• Distilled water
• Funnel and paper coffee filter
Handful of fresh rose petals

Instructions: Gently wash the rose petals, placing them in a small bowl. Microwave or heat water until it’s almost boiling, then pour a cup to two cups (depending on the size of your spray bottle) over the rose petals. Let the watery rose petals cool. Put the funnel in the spray bottle, pop in a small paper coffee filter, and pour the rose water into the bottle. Use liberally as often as you like, but keep it refrigerated when you aren’t using it. Most rose waters have a very short lifetime (usually a day or two) .

Chloe’s Cucumber Mask
Ingredients:
• 1/2 cucumber
• White of one egg
• 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon lime juic

1 teaspoon mint leaves (you can get these from the produce section of your grocery store, or grow your own)

Instructions: Combine half the cucumber, egg white, lemon and lime juices, and the mint leaves in a food processor or blender. Puree for five minutes, until the mixture is smooth. Refrigerate for 15 minutes. Apply mask to your face, leaving it on for 20 minutes. Wash off the mask with warm water, then use a cool water rinse to close up the pores. This is an especially good mask for people with oily skin.

Jan’s Fruit Smoothie Hair Mask
You use a mask on your face to nourish and clean your skin, so why not pamper your hair as well?

Ingredients:
• 1/2 of a banana
• 1/4 of an avocado
• 1/4 of a cantaloupe
• 1 tablespoon wheat germ oil
1 tablespoon plain yogurt
• 1/4 cup mouthwash (yes, mouthwash!)

Instructions: combine all the ingredients but the mouthwash in a bowl. Wash your hair and apply the hair mask before you get out of the shower (it can be a little messy). Let the mask sit for fifteen minutes. Wash out the mask with warm water, then rinse your hair with the mouthwash combined with a cup of water (believe it or not, it adds shine!).

Chloe’s Foot Scrub
With sandal and barefeet weather here, pretty feet are a must. Use this homemade scrub to keep your feet looking as good as they feel.

Ingredients: 1 tablespoon of clean, coarse sand (available from a nursery or garden store)
• 1/4 cup light canola oil
1/4 cup liquid hand soap
• 1/4 cup sea salt (can be bought in a grocery store)
1/4 cup Epsom salt (can be bought in a grocery store)

Instructions: combine ingredients in a small bowl. Fill a basin or your tub with several inches of warm water. Soak your feet in the water for 5 to 10 minutes to soften the skin. Without drying your feet, massage the scrub into them, paying attention to your heels and any other spots that are showing signs of roughness or dead skin. The scrub will exfoliate any dead skin. Rinse feet in the warm water, dry, and massage with your favorite body lotion.
